Pride and Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge movie review!

The Pride Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge (2013)

Finally I am reviewing the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice. I had never seen this version and own the Colin Firth version done by A&E. There are pros and cons to both version of the great work by Austen. In regards to the 1995 version, I did like the settings of the house and that they actually showed more of the servants, I felt this lacked in the previous version. They showed them more with the common folk, and I did think this version of a country dance might have been more accurate. Mr. Darcy though was just too nice from the start, which is not how Austen portrayed Mr. Darcy in the book!  The acting itself was good by everyone, I just felt that Mr. Darcy personality never showed an air of aristocracy. One thing I felt spoiled from watching the miniseries from the 80's was that, in the 1995 version it seemed the film was way too short. Not that the Colin Firth version is perfect, as I think sometimes it did have it's issues as well. I do wish I could have taken the things I loved about both versions and put them together.

Pursuing Justice Review....

I received a free copy of the book Pursuing Justice by Ken Wytsma from BookSneeze, I am under no obligation to give a positive review for the book.

The author Ken explains what he believes justice is using his own experiences, scripture and the thoughts of previous Christian authors/preachers/philosophers. His view of justice is not necessarily what we immediately think it is, which isn't a bad thing, although I didn't agree with him all of the time. It is always good though to see what others opinions are and how we differ, but also on things we agree on as well. The author has traveled a lot for various missions and uses some of them as examples in the book. I thought the book was a little too long in some places.  No one in life is perfect of course, but this book did make me think of a few things in my life that I could do differently.

I am rating this book a 3 and a half out of 5 stars. I thought the first half of the book dragged on quite a bit, and felt that some things repeated.

Classic Club Spin...and tv shows

The number chosen for the classic club spin was 6, so I have started reading The Railway Children. I still need to get back to reading The Heart of Darkness too as well for my regular classic club book (I have been a little slow on reading it).

Lately, I have started watching some BBC shows (as well as those taking place in the UK) and really enjoyed them. Unfortunately most of them are now off the air in the UK so no new episodes, but still I enjoy the reruns that are aired here in the states. I have even gotten some of them on DVD, books that were the original inspiration of the show, and sadly even one show is not available for region 1 dvd (so sad). Here are the shows, does anyone else have some favorite new shows they have found?

Amazon has Black Books available for instant viewing.

Love this show, which combines mystery drama with gardening in various ways. I couldn't resist getting all of the seasons of Rosemary and Thyme.
